Chambered Nautilus: Living Fossil?

The Chambered Nautilus is considered by many scientists to be a living fossil. Why? The Chambered Nautilus, also known as Nautilus Pompilius by its scientific name, is the largest and most common of about six species known to exist. It has remained unchanged for over 400 million years. The nautilus is a mollusk and a member of the cephalopod family and lives in deep waters.

I think these are just gorgeous. And yes, I wonder what all these new sea creatures (not that this one is “new”) that are being discovered in the really deep waters will look like in 20 years, too – they’ll probably have legs and lungs and bullwhips with which to make human slaves work their seaweed farms. Seriously, look at giant squid behavior – the sea creatures are pi$$ed and they’re attacking boats! Maybe if we treated the seas better than convenient garbage dumps we’d get along with them.
